During August 2019, the population in the London Economic Region increased by 1,000 people, while the Labour Force (LF) has risen by 7,600 people. The large increase in LF participants can be due to the availability of jobs, the beginning of school academic year, or other reasons.
Employment also rose by 4,100 people compared to the previous month as more jobs related to education, health, and government administration are tied to the beginning of the academic year.
The Unemployment rate increased by 0.8 per cent to reach 6.5 per cent. This could be mainly due to a large number of people joining the workforce as the Fall approached.
